From the lab to your home...
SWIFF began in Tokyo during the pandemic, where our Co-Founder, Dr JJ Richardson, was researching antimicrobial coatings.
He noticed how his clothes would always smell after his daily commute. With encouragement from his wife and SWIFF Co-Founder, Susanna, JJ took his research out of the lab and into everyday life. They began testing safe, sustainable formulas on their own clothes, eventually discovering a way to neutralise odour-causing germs effectively without harsh chemicals.
What started as a personal solution soon became something bigger. With a new bottle design that made SWIFF simple to use at home, JJ and Susanna shared it with friends and family. They quickly realised they weren’t the only ones searching for a better answer to freshness.

  • Dr JJ Richardson

    Co-Founder, World-Leader in Nanobiotechnology

    Dr JJ is a world-leading scientist in nanobiotechnology, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications in journals including Science and Nature. He’s also an Associate Professor at RMIT University, an ARC Future Fellow, and an invited speaker at scientific conferences around the globe.

    Beyond the lab, JJ has always been driven by a single goal: making science simple and practical enough to improve everyday life. His research spans medicine, diagnostics, synthetic biology, and biosecurity. But with SWIFF, he’s applying his expertise to a very human problem: helping people feel safe, protected, and comfortable wherever they are.

    Co-Founder, Communications Strategy & Engagement Professional

    Susanna brings years of international experience in business relations, marketing, and team leadership across industries, including education, non-profit, fashion, media, and publishing. She has led operations and campaigns across the Asia-Pacific — from Australia and New Zealand to Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam.

    Her strength lies in connecting with people and creating opportunities that bring out the best in teams, projects, and communities. With SWIFF, Susanna ensures the brand strikes a balance between cutting-edge science, care, accessibility, and a global outlook.
